Overview of Design and Fashion School Study Emphases
When you go to a design school you might study one of a number of different emphases. It depends upon what your specific focus would be, which of course hopefully would be a field of interest of which you are passionate.
In any case, if you attend a design or fashion school beyond high school you may major in one of these fields:
Architecture-You may design large and small scale buildings if you were employed in this field. You may also design other large and small physical structures such as bridges or sites between buildings. Landscape architect study sometimes considered a subcategory of architecture expertise, but this is a field which focuses mainly on designing outside yards.
Graphic Design-This is a practice of creating unique art forms, logos, or publication images that would be used for specific purposes. One specific sect of this industry is mainly for the purpose of advancing a business as ad logos, brochure images, and website images are created. However, it can lead to the more creative such as design the front cover of a book or greeting card.
Industrial Design-Usually this involves the meeting of both artistic talent and scientific ingenuity to create a very useful product or machine. Usually this is a very exact science as both the appearance and construction of items such as guitars, machinery, appliances, or telephones should be carefully considered.
Fashion Design-This field invoves the use of creativity and aesthetics to help launch new lines of clothing and accessories. Two main categories of fashion design include the following: haute couture which are the clothes you see famous celebrities wear to special events, and the ready-to-wear items offered to the average person. Of course then there is quite a large range of clothing and accessory items made from very expensive to very cheap even in the ready-to-wear category.
Illustration/Photography-A person involved in this line of work would draw pictures or take photographs or create paintings or graphic arts for books or magazines. They may also work as a photographer for a newspaper. It depends upon the path that a creative person chooses.
Interior Design-This would involve decoration rooms and/or displaying of furniture very strategically. Careful consideration is given to color coordination, current furniture trends, and other aspects of creating just the right setting in an interior space. The most creative persons can be very successful in this field.
Digital Arts-This is the act of applying a variety of creative talents to create multimedia projects. It might be used to describe a person who edits and enhances videos or it might be described as the act of using computer art to create the raw images to be used in multimedia projects. This practic could include drawing, animation, or other art forms.
